About M.U.S.T.
The Establishment Of A World-Renowned University
In 1995, a bold vision was set in motion when Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and a Malaysian delegation visited the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Inspired by MIT’s excellence in science and technology education, they endorsed the creation of a university in Malaysia modeled after its world-renowned approach. This vision materialized in January 1997 with the establishment of the Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST).
MIT played a key role in shaping MUST during its early years, providing expertise and guidance that helped build a strong academic foundation. From the start, MUST has been committed to developing creative thinkers, problem solvers, and entrepreneurial leaders in technology and business. Our teaching approach emphasizes analytical thinking, innovation, collaboration, and hands-on learning. MUST continue to nurture a research-driven culture across all disciplines, ensuring our students and faculty develop deep understanding and confidence in tackling practical challenges. This commitment to excellence has fostered a vibrant academic environment. One that is innovative, purposeful, and deeply attuned to the needs of our local and global communities. Today, MUST stands as a dynamic force in higher education, empowering the next generation to lead with vision, integrity, and impact.
