| MUST’s Blood Donation Campaign
By organising a blood drive with just 10 people, you can save up to 30 lives. That's because each unit of donated blood can be divided for at least three life-saving purposes:
- Red blood cells are used for surgery, kidney dialysis, and to treat anemia.
- Plasma is used to treat burn victims and patients in shock.
- Platelets are used for surgery, and to treat leukemia, as well as other forms of cancer.
Ms Mas Amira Isni, a 2nd semester student from BSc Biotechnology programme took the initiative to organise a Blood Donation Campaign with the collaboration from the National Blood Centre, at the Malaysia University of Science and Technology on 15 May 2012. Students, staff and faculty members turned out in big numbers to contribute to this social cause.
The campaign received an overwhelming response, not only from MUST students, but also from the tenants in Kelana Square. In total, about 100 donors turned-up for the campaign.
Kudos all students and staff who supported this campaign. We hope that more social responsibility events will be organised in the near future. This is a true support to such social causes and we will continue to help humanity in all the ways we can.
