The Doctor of Philosophy in Transportation and Logistics (by Research) provides opportunities to students to conduct in-depth research in specialised areas while maintaining a reasonable breadth of knowledge in the dynamic field of transportation and logistics. This programme also offers sufficient flexibility to students to develop their study and research that cross traditional disciplinary and departmental boundaries. This is necessary to tackle the increasingly inter-disciplinary nature of transportation and logistics issues and problems.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree (First or Second Upper-Class honours degree or CGPA of 3.00 or above on a 4-point scale) or an equivalent qualification in a relevant field from a recognized university.
  • In special circumstances, applicants who have relevant work experience in an appropriate field and a Second Lower honours degree or a CGPA of 2.50-2.99 (on a 4-point scale) may be considered for admission.
  • Language Proficiency – Applicants will be required to provide documentary evidence of proficiency in English in one of the following examinations:

i. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) at a score of 600, or higher; or

ii. International English Language Testing Services (IELTS) at a minimum overall score of 6.5 and at least a 6.0 score in each individual component of the test; or

iii. Provide proof of English proficiency as evaluated through MUST English Placement Test and personal interviews.

* Trial Examinations/Forecast results are accepted.

No course work is required for a full research mode programme, except Research Methods course or any relevant prerequisite courses which are decided by the department.

Upon successful completion, the PhD holders take pride in being able to:

  • § Demonstrate comprehensive, systematic, integrated, new, complex and abstract idea of current critical issues in the most advanced frontiers of knowledge related to the field of transportation and logistics;
  • Make substantial contribution through the creation of new knowledge, theories, solutions or practice in transportation and logistics field via originality and independent research, which satisfies peer reviews and international standards;
  • Demonstrate ability to design and implement or adapt highly advanced specialized research methodologies which is at the forefront in field of transportation and logistics;
  • Exemplify self-advancement particularly in transportation and logistics field through continuous academic and professional development and integrate knowledge for lifelong learning;
  • Contribute professionally to social, technological and economic development both nationally and internationally using gained expertise in transportation and logistics field.
